Mead "Sun Mead"

Historical sources claim that the oldest drink in the world is mead. The origins of this mysterious drink lie in nature untouched by civilization. It is believed that honey brought by wild bees to trees, into which rainwater and natural fermentation bacteria entered, began to ferment on its own. Without any special technologies, our ancestors could taste the mysterious drink created by nature.

Many years ago, while traveling around Germany, the owner of the beekeeping farm “Saulės Midus” visited a beekeeper who was rushing to the market early in the morning to sell mead. He managed to show her the room where the mead was fermented. After returning from the trip, she tried to make mead at home. She succeeded — the mead was amber in color, and her husband and neighbors praised the drink. Later, mead was made for family celebrations, events, and meetings, and people around her kept urging her to start producing it for sale.

The process of testing and improvement continued. The most delicious mead was poetically named “Saulės meadus” in 2002. This name was chosen because the family lives near Šiauliai, better known as the City of the Sun, and near the place where the historic Battle of the Sun took place. In 2003, the first label and packaging were created for this mead.

The beehives given to me by my mother many years ago have today become the basis for an innovative family business.
